Kids Headshot Photographer - Vancouver

New to the industry? Looking for kids headshots in Vancouver?

What are kids headshots?

Kids headshots are more than just a nice photo of your child. A great headshot captures their personality, expression and individuality in a natural, authentic way. It’s usually a simple portrait focused on the face and shoulders, with clean lighting and minimal distractions, so the person looking at the image connects with the child—not the background or overly styled setup.

For children, the best headshots should still feel like them. Kids don't need to look overly serious or perfectly posed. A professional children's photographer knows how to create a relaxed environment where a child can be themselves, bringing out genuine smiles, confident expressions and those little personality quirks that make their photograph memorable. That’s what I’m known for, letting kids be kids and making them flourish in front of the camera.

A professional kids headshot can be used for everything from acting and modelling applications to dance, theatre, sports profiles, school programs and other activities where a current, polished photograph is needed. It can also simply be a beautiful way to capture who your child is right now—because they change so quickly.

When does a child need a professional headshot by a children’s headshot photographer?

There are lots of reasons a child might need a professional headshot, and it doesn't have to mean they're pursuing a career in acting or modelling. If your child is auditioning for a television show, film, theatre production or modelling opportunity, a professional headshot is often an important part of their application. Casting teams want to see a clear, current image that genuinely represents the child.

Dance schools, theatre programs, talent agencies and other youth organizations may also ask for an updated headshot. Having a professional image ready means you're not scrambling to find a good photograph at the last minute.

And sometimes, there doesn't need to be a specific reason at all. Children grow and change incredibly quickly. A headshot session is a lovely opportunity to document this little chapter—the gap in their smile, their favourite expression, their confidence, and all those details that make them uniquely themselves.

The most important thing is that the photograph looks like your child today. Their headshot shouldn't make them look older, overly posed or unlike themselves. It should simply be a beautiful, honest representation of who they are right now.

Which headshot package should I book my child for with Tilly Nelson Photo?

Every child is different, and the right headshot package really depends on where they are in their journey. Whether they’re just starting out, need a fresh set of images, or are ready to build a more creative portfolio, there’s an option designed to meet them where they are.

The Mini — $325

The Mini is a wonderful place to start for children who are new to the industry and need their first set of professional headshots. The 45-minute session includes three retouched images, giving you the key photographs most agencies typically look for.

We’ll capture a natural smiling image with teeth showing for commercial opportunities, a more serious, mouth-closed image for film, and one additional image for a little variation. The session includes both white and black backdrops, giving you a fresh, bright commercial look as well as something a little richer and more cinematic.

The Silver — $380

The Silver package is perfect for actor headshots, for children who have had headshots before or know they want to have a serious shot at being in the industry.

This one-hour session includes four retouched images and gives us more time to tailor the shoot specifically to your child. We can choose backdrop colours that complement their colouring and clothing, check in with their agent about what they’re currently looking for, and focus on bringing out the personality and qualities that make your child unique.

There’s also a little more room to get creative and create images that feel particularly suited to the kinds of jobs they’re hoping to book.

The Creative — $500

The Creative, or Gold package, is designed for children who are ready to take things a little further. It’s ideal for kids who have been in the industry for a while, or those who are looking to move more into modelling and want something beyond traditional headshots.

The 2.5-hour session includes six retouched images and gives us plenty of time to explore different looks, backdrops, lighting and movement. Rather than focusing only on waist-up portraits, we can create dynamic images that show your child’s personality, style and range.

It’s a beautiful option for building a more complete creative portfolio, combining classic, clean headshots with more editorial-style photographs. There’s also an opportunity to involve your child in the creative process, allowing them to have a say in the look and feel of their images and create photographs that feel genuinely representative of who they are.

If you’re wondering which package is right for your child, a simple way to think about it is: The Mini is a great first step, The Silver is perfect focused shoot, and The Creative is for building something more comprehensive and expressive.
