I’m constantly asked, do I do headshots for under 3’s. Yes!

Just like the 3-18 year old headshot shoots, this shoot is about a select number of images that capture your child’s personality in the most beautiful way and inspires Creative Directors, Producers and industry professionals to book them for fantastic jobs. Within these shoots we focus on portraits. We keep it clean and simple and make sure that the focus is your child.

Shoots with under 3’s are set up a bit differently. We keep it play based and I reduce the number of backdrop changes and outfit changes. Usually with little ones the parents/ guardians are very much involved and we let the child dictate how fast or slow we move. My aim is to finish the shoot before your child has even realised I’m 200 images in. By using play based techniques (and sometimes bribing with the promise of a biscuit!!) we work together to capture full length images and portraits. Usually at this age the agency are looking for a bright smiley shot and something more “serious” with the mouth closed. They want to see the the full body and their ability (crawling, walking etc.) and so that’s what we capture.

After working with many many kids under 3, I purposefully only offer the 1 hour package. Why? When you arrive at the studio I take it slow. From experience I know that a 2 year old doesn’t enjoy being rushed and forced to sit down. By allowing us time to start slowly, take snack breaks and by giving them a calm relaxed environment it makes such a huge difference to the outcome of the shoot. Sometimes we finish in half an hour and the child has given me everything I need in that time and that’s okay. But 9 times out of 10, we use 45 mins to an hour in the studio and get beautiful results.

The next most common question - what if my child doesn’t behave? With under 3’s I always offer a re-shoot if I feel that we haven’t got what we needed. I will always make sure you get what you need and images that you adore. In the last 8 years I think I’ve only had 4 re-shoots… so I have confidence!
