Alopecia Awareness Month

A shoot created to make women who experience hair loss feel beautiful and celebrated. When Tami from Hair Loss Pride booked me for this shoot, I knew it would be a special one. A note from Tami;

“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully put into words what this day meant to me. During Alopecia Awareness Month, I wanted to do something really special for my Vancouver community. Not just a photo shoot; an experience where we could celebrate ourselves exactly as we are, with our wigs, without our wigs, with visible hair loss, with thinning hair, with all of it. It was even more incredible than I imagined. Many of the women who came had never met each other before. Most of us were strangers that morning. By the end of the day, we were hugging, laughing, cheering each other on and having the best time. We were just being ourselves, and there was something incredibly powerful about being surrounded by women who understood without having to explain.

Being seen.
Being celebrated.
Being beautiful exactly as we are.

That’s what I wanted to create, and watching it happen was honestly one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had since starting Hair Loss Pride. A huge thank you to @tillynelsonphoto for being our incredible photographer and for the genuine care, kindness and love she gave every woman in that room. And to @kristarandgruen and @andrearathborne, who are technically new friends, but somehow feel like women I’ve known forever. They helped make everyone feel absolutely beautiful and captured so many of these behind-the-scenes moments. I’m so grateful for you both.

Finally, a huge thank you to @filamentsciences for their generous donation that helped make this photo shoot possible and made it affordable for women in my community who may not otherwise have been able to experience something like this. Thank you for believing in this idea and helping me bring it to life. I hope this is just the beginning. My dream is for this to become an annual event for our community, and for it to grow every year, because every woman deserves to experience what it feels like to walk into a room and realize:

I don’t have to hide here. I can show up exactly as I am, and I am still beautiful.”
